What moves the price of a solar installation in Paisley?
Four things: the roof, the scaffold, the battery size and the consumer unit.
The roof. A straightforward south-facing slate roof on a Paisley semi-detached is the simplest installation. A red sandstone tenement with a steep pitch, limited access and shared ownership is more complex. Dormer windows, chimney stacks and multiple roof planes all add time and fixings.
The scaffold. Most Paisley properties need scaffolding for safe roof access. Single-storey bungalows at Ralston or Foxbar may not. A three-storey tenement on the High Street will. Scaffold cost depends on height, access and how long it is needed.
The battery size. A 5kWh battery is at the lower end of the range; 10kWh is more common for a family home. Larger batteries cost more but store more surplus and allow greater off-peak charging. The right size depends on your usage pattern and the installation partner advises at survey.
The consumer unit. Older Paisley homes sometimes have a consumer unit that cannot accept a solar connection without an upgrade. If yours needs replacing, that is included in the installation quote — it is not a hidden extra, but it is one of the things that moves the total.
How much can I save with solar panels in Paisley?
It depends on your roof, your usage and the system size — but a typical semi-detached can save £1,000–£1,800 a year.
All savings calculations on this site use a daytime import rate of 28p per kWh, which is a market average. Your actual tariff may differ. Off-peak rates (around 7p per kWh) and export tariffs (roughly 4p to 25p per kWh, varying by supplier) are benefits that an installation unlocks — they are not your current rates.
Energy price projections in any payback illustration assume a minimum 10% rise per year. This is stated openly as an assumption, not a guarantee. If prices rise faster, the payback is shorter. If prices rise slower, it is longer. We show this clearly in every written proposal.
Illustration — not a promise
A 4kWp solar system with a 10kWh battery on a south-facing Paisley semi, generating around 3,500 kWh a year, self-consuming 70% and exporting the rest, with off-peak overnight charging, saves approximately £1,000–£1,800 a year at current rates. The range depends on your usage pattern and tariff. Actual savings are confirmed in the written proposal after survey.
Daylight hours in Paisley by month
More daylight means more generation. Paisley's long summer days are why the payback calculation works — even at 56°N.

Is there 0% VAT on solar panels?
Yes — 0% VAT on domestic solar, battery and heat pump installations until 31 March 2027.
All prices on this site include 0% VAT. This applies to solar panels, battery storage and heat pump installations on domestic properties. The zero rate is set by HM Revenue and Customs and is currently in place until 31 March 2027. If it changes, we will update our pricing accordingly.
Is finance available for solar panels?
Yes — finance is arranged through FCA-authorised partners, subject to status.
Finance is available for solar, battery and heat pump installations. It is arranged through FCA-authorised finance partners, not by Solar Panels Paisley or Scottish Energy Efficiency. All finance is subject to status and affordability checks. We do not provide financial advice. For heat pumps specifically, the Home Energy Scotland interest-free loan of up to £7,500 may be available depending on eligibility.
